More than 400,000 people are expected to attend New Year's Eve celebrations on the Strip and in downtown.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority projected $411.4 million in visitor spending for the long weekend and a total economic impact including direct, indirect and induced spending of $727 million.

To keep everyone safe, the following measures will be in effect for #VegasNYE:

  • Glass and metal containers, coolers, strollers and any bags larger than 12x12x6 inches ARE PROHIBITED on the Strip and downtown. This includes backpacks, purses and luggage.
  • There will be a curfew in place prohibiting minors under 18 without a parent on the Strip and Downtown.

If you see something suspicious, please say something; call 702-828-7777 or report it to a nearby officer.

I-15 off-ramps at Flamingo Road and Tropicana Avenue will be shut down in both directions starting at 5:30 p.m. Road closures on Las Vegas Boulevard from Spring Mountain Road to to Reno Avenue just south of Tropicana will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Strip will be completely shut down to all vehicle traffic by 8 p.m.

Real-time information about road closures will be available on the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's social media accounts.

The National Guard and other local law enforcement and fire agencies, including the city of Las Vegas' Department of Public Safety, will work with Metro Police to keep everyone safe. Officers will also be patrolling neighborhoods that night as well. If you see illegal fireworks, call 3-1-1; don't tie up 9-1-1.

Operation SAFER

To prevent crime and disorder in our tourist corridors, our Department of Public Safety has implemented Operation S.A.F.E.R. – Stronger Alliance For Enforcement and Relationships.

The program aims to be proactive using data, leveraging technology and building relationships that create and sustain a safe place for people to live, work and visit.

Our Deputy City Marshals will work closely with businesses, residents, private security and law enforcement partners in the Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard at Sahara Avenue areas to sustain the overall improved safety and quality of life.

As the department transitions to more evidence-based policing models, informed decisions based on comparison data, empirical research, hotspot policing and the police science of what works and what does not are going to be vital. Evidence-based policing models focus attention on places and times where crimes occur in order to interrupt & disrupt the behavior. This allows us to have a more precise approach. We want to have a high visibility of officers to deter crimes & a shared community responsibility.

The success of this operation will be assessed by measuring calls for service, crime, community contacts, arrests and citations.

Downtown Celebrations

Fremont Street Experience invites everyone downtown for the NYE Time of Your Life Festival, the official New Year’s Eve Party of the city of Las Vegas. The event will feature live performances from some of the biggest names in music, including Flo Rida, Locash, Bow Wow, Trick Daddy with Mike Jones, 3OH!3, and Dylan Marlowe and more. The event features an iconic countdown to the New Year culminating in an epic display of pyrotechnics and digital fireworks on the world's largest screen, Viva Vision.

This year, the Plaza Hotel & Casino will have a countdown to midnight and then light up the downtown sky with its annual fireworks show. Then, staged by Pyrotek Special Effects from multiple locations on the towers’ roofs, the Plaza’s annual New Year’s Eve fireworks display will be a spectacular show for people downtown and visible for miles.
